About Me:
ASHENBERRY - original designs since 1991 - got its start as a lunchtime activity that I pursued while working as a therapist in a psychiatric hospital located in Syracuse, NY. I had always done lots of sewing as a kid and when I discovered an outlet for mohair, I was hooked. I only did one local show that year, but over the next 5 years, I increased the number of shows and decreased the number of hours spent working at the hospital. By 1996, I was up to 17 shows per year and dedicated myself full-time to my ever expanding studio. Since then, I have moved four times - twice to other NY locations, once to a mountain top home on the Blue Ridge of VA, and lastly to my Victorian home in the tiny, eclectic town of Norfolk, CT.
My creations vary from bears to camels, monkeys, cats, dogs, swans, meerkats, lions, gollies, fairies and humans, and range in size from 2 to 24 inches. Using mohair, mini fabrics and/or wool felt, they are all fully jointed, then most are wired to increase their pose-ability. Each is stuffed with a combination of fiberfill, cotton fill, glass pellets and/or steel shot. German glass eyes, needle and/or scissor sculpting, embroidery and/or needle-felting complete the figure.
I consider myself very lucky these past many years to have met so many creative artists and supportive collectors from all over the world, and am grateful for each day that I am a part of this "warm and fuzzy" family.

SHOW SCHEDULE 2023
Sunday, Feb. 12...Tampa Teddy Bear Show at the Holiday Inn Tampa Airport Westshore...10AM - 3PM
Many of you know that I am moving to Florida to be closer to my son and his family...this has been very challenging, as I am trying to downsize from a four-story house into a one-story house...my beloved ChChing passed away in late September from complications due to cancer...in early November, the town of Norfolk experienced the largest gasoline spill ever in a residential area, guess where..yep, in front of my home! I am now living in an apartment while testing and cleanup progresses slowly. Needless to say, my life has been disrupted in a major way, hence the severe reduction in shows. I hope to get through all of this and resume something of a normal show schedule...in the meantime, please send positive thoughts our way! Tiny bear hugs to you all! Judy
